Rectors from NEOLAiA alliance reiterate their long-term commitment
The Rectors of the NEOLAiA alliance universities reiterated their long-term commitment during their online meeting on 10 March.
The NEOLAiA consortium, whose motto is “Young Universities Empowering Regionally Rooted European Talents“, is structured around fifteen work packages that stem from the alliance’s action areas: management, teaching and learning, diversity and inclusion, mobility, entrepreneurship and outreach, research, plurilingualism and interculturalism, digital transformation, and sustainability and dissemination. The aim is to generate a resource structure that facilitates synergies in those areas and to improve the position and effectiveness of the universities that make up the consortium in the medium and long term.
The consortium of young European universities NEOLAiA, coordinated by the University of Jaén (UJA), held this meeting, chaired by the Rector Juan Gómez Ortega, and attended by representatives of the 9 universities and 30 participants (vice-rectors, professors and International Relations staff). The meeting was attended by:
the Rector of Bielefeld University (Germany), Gerhard Sagerer;
the Rector of the University of Nicosia (Cyprus), Philippos Pouyioutas;
the Rector of Örebro University (Sweden), Johan Schnürer;
the Rector of the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Jan Lata;
the Vice-Rector of the University of Salerno (Italy), Mario Vento;
the Rector of the University of Suceava (Romania), Valentin Popa;
the Rector of the University of Tours (France), Arnaud Giacometti;
and the Director of the Šiauliai State University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania), Lina Tamutienè.
The rectors showed their long-term commitment to the NEOLAiA alliance and the short/medium-term benefits it will bring to the partner universities. Juan Gómez stressed that “throughout the life of the project and beyond, our universities will be strongly committed to creating the future of the European Higher Education Area, through the integration of our teaching, research, digital development, mobility and technology transfer structures”.
The meeting highlighted the projects already being developed within the partnership and the objectives that make up the project’s mission: enhancing regional connectivity to avoid populism through innovation in academic mobility; strengthening inclusiveness and interculturality through common standards against cultural and linguistic barriers; achieving excellence in research through increased scientific impact, knowledge production and transfer by leveraging digitisation; increasing regional output in terms of entrepreneurship training, product ideation and business start-up support; and increasing the number of joint teaching and learning programmes to address key global challenges through regional engagement.
