Ukrainian citizens who are currently studying at ŠVK shared their experiences about their studies here, Šiauliai and Lithuania.

Anastasiia Levchenko - a second-year student of the Construction Study Programme of Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija, who has chosen part-time studies - part of the classes take place online, students work independently, arrive at the ŠVK at the scheduled time. Anastasiia has been living in Lithuania for two years - since 6 March 2022.

“When I came to Lithuania, I felt very bad, it was difficult, I didn't even understand where I was. Over time, I got used to Lithuania and Lithuanians, I have a lot of friends here” - says Anastasiia. “Friends were the reason which encouraged me to learn Lithuanian language.” Initially, Anastasiia simply asked meanings of unknown words, thus gradually developing language skills with those who do not speak Russian. Now the student is very happy with her level of Lithuanian language proficiency. She also has a lecture in Lithuanian at the ŠVK. Anastasiia is studying construction. She chose this programme for several reasons.

“I'm following in my dad's footsteps, he's a builder. In addition, I plan to return to my homeland and contribute to its rebuilding after the war. My greatest wish for the future is that there will be no more war and suffering in Ukraine, that we will all live together in peace just the way we want. I would be happy,” - the student shares her thoughts and future plans.

Another student of Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija, Yanis Lukoshius, a second-year student of the International Business Study Programme, also has lived in Lithuania for more than two years.

“Lithuania is a wonderful combination of greenery and melancholy for me, and I would call Šiauliai a small cultural center where many museums welcome visitors to history and traditions. This city surprised me with its architecture and peacefulness, I feel like at home,” - Yanis shares his impressions. In his opinion, most Lithuanians are pleasant and hospitable, tend to help, so it's easy to communicate with them. The first positive experiences after arriving in Lithuania are only getting stronger as Yanis gradually understands the culture and the lifestyle of the local people. Šiauliai has already become a cozy and lovely city for him, and Lithuanians are still surprising him by their goodwill. He has several lovely places in the city where he spends time with his company of Lithuanian friends.

“I love the pedestrian boulevard with museums and cozy cafes and the central square. Most of all, I like to be by the lake and enjoy the fresh air there, ” - Yanis names advantages of Šiauliai.

He has been learning the Lithuanian language since coming to Lithuania, and takes advantage of all the opportunities: attends courses, learns it himself, tries to communicate with locals in Lithuanian. Yanis admits that he has already reached a certain level of proficiency, but would still like to improve his spoken language and reduce his accent.

Yanis chose the International Business Study Programme at Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija because of future prospects. He enjoys interactive methods that teachers use, workshops and seminars. He communicates with his peers in Russian and Ukrainian languages, and with teachers in Russian and English, and speaks Lithuanian during Lithuanian language classes.

Yanis also has time for leisure. Currently he is seeking a driver's license, working, and spends time for improving his Lithuanian language skills.

His future plans are to finish studies and find a job in which he could apply the acquired knowledge in Lithuania.

Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija can help to realize dreams - to pursue higher education and personal growth. Individuals with secondary education are admitted to the ŠVK. The country in which the certificate is issued is irrelevant.
