Erasmus+ in Lithuania: Insights from the Dominican Republic

08-07-2025

Two professors from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Dominican Republic—Oscar Iván Pascual and Joan José Monegro Medina—recently took part in the International Week hosted by Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija / Higher Education Institution in Lithuania.

Their visit, supported by the Erasmus+ programme, offered a unique blend of academic exchange, cultural immersion, and professional networking.

From May 5 to 9, 2025, the visiting lecturers participated in a thoughtfully curated programme that included institutional presentations, interactive workshops, guided city tours, and opportunities to explore Lithuania’s rich cultural heritage. The agenda combined professional sessions—such as a workshop on preparing Erasmus+ Capacity Building proposals—with engaging cultural activities, including traditional Lithuanian bread-making and visits to historical landmarks like the Hill of Crosses and Pakruojis Municipality.

Both professors praised the exceptional organization and personal attention provided by the International Relations Department. They highlighted the warm welcome, seamless coordination, and the genuine hospitality of the Lithuanian hosts—particularly acknowledging Augustina, Gouda, and Dovydas for making them feel at home.

Academically, the experience offered valuable insights into the teaching facilities at Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija/ Higher Education Institution, including its Health Care and Business and Technology faculties. The exchange sparked ideas for future joint research and collaborative projects, with both professors returning home inspired and motivated to strengthen international ties between their institutions.

Reflecting on their visit, the professors described the International Week as an enriching experience that not only expanded their professional horizons but also deepened their appreciation for cultural diversity. They left Lithuania with fond memories, new friendships, and a strong desire to build lasting academic bridges between Europe and the Caribbean.
